Find Out How Old Your Woodburner Is

As part of the Air Plan to deliver cleaner air in Canterbury towns and cities, the first of a number of local bans on the use of open fires and solid fuel burners older than 15 years became effective in Christchurch from 1 April 2010.

Similar bans applied in Kaiapoi from May 2010, in Ashburton from May 2011 and Rangiora from May 2012.

Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Rangiora and Ashburton have lists of all building consents issued for the installation of fuel burners in the last 15 years.

Use the link for your town and follow instructions to look at a list of properties with burners less than 15 years old. If yours is on the list, it is okay to use your burner until the 15th anniversary of its first installation. You may need to plan to replace it when it is 15 years old.
