Kaiapoi - Find Out How Old Your Woodburner Is

Although the rules take effect from May 2011, Kaiapoi people have been given an extra year to prepare as the new rules won't be actively enforced until May 2012. Between 1 May 2011 and 30 April 2012, enforcement officers will take individual circumstances into account and take appropriate action which may include an official warning. For repeat offences or the burning of materials other than paper, cardboard or untreated wood, further enforcement action may be necessary.

When a home changes hands, the rules become effective immediately.

From May 2010, a solid fuel burner must have had a building permit issued in the last 15 years before it can be used legally in Kaiapoi. Use the search facility below to find the age of your solid fuel burner.

If your address is not on the building permit list, your burner is probably more than 15 years old or was installed without a building permit. In either case it must not be used.
